The Grand Vividus appeared in 2020, a collaboration between Hästens and the Canadian designer Ferris Rafauli. Unlike the rest of the collection it is not a single bed but a set: a mattress, a base shaped like a travelling trunk, and a headboard, with leather, suede and saddlery metalwork.
Inside is what sits inside every Hästens bed — horsehair, wool, cotton and flax on a frame of slow-grown Swedish pine — but in a quantity and a layering no other model has. Hästens counts more than six hundred working hours for it; the Vividus takes three hundred and twenty.
The Vividus of 2006 was, for fifteen years, the furthest Hästens went. The Grand Vividus is not a larger version of it but a different premise: not the best possible bed, but the bed without a ceiling. More hours, more material, an outside designer, and a price two to three times higher.
The difference in comfort between the two is not twice as large, and Hästens nowhere claims it is. What you buy above the Vividus is the extreme for its own sake. That is a legitimate reason, as long as you know it is the reason.
At its introduction the Grand Vividus was announced as the four-hundred-thousand-dollar bed. Dealers publishing the 2025 European list price now quote roughly five hundred thousand to six hundred and thirty thousand euros, depending on size and finish; the 210 by 210 centimetre size sits around € 576,000.
