Why care matters more here
A foam mattress springs back the same way every night, until one day it no longer does. Natural fibres behave differently: they settle under weight and recover when relieved. That is not a weakness, but it does mean it matters whether they get the chance.
Lie in exactly the same spot every night and the filling settles further there. Spread the load and the whole bed gives slowly and evenly. You won't see the difference in the first year, but you will in the tenth.
What you do
Turning and rotating. Follow the schedule supplied with your bed: more often in the first months, less often afterwards. It differs by model and by component, which is why we don't give a rule of thumb here that may not fit your bed. Ask at delivery to be shown which parts of your model are turned and rotated.
Air. Fold back the duvet in the morning and only make the bed once the room has had some air. A sleeper gives off moisture at night, and natural fibres carry it away — provided it has somewhere to go.
A fitted sheet or protector that breathes. A protective layer keeps dirt and stains out, but a layer that won't let moisture through also keeps the moisture in. Choose cotton or molton, not plastic.
Distance from a cold wall. Don't push the bed tight against a cold outside wall. Where warm meets cold, condensation forms, and that is the one real enemy of natural filling.
What to avoid
Don't get the filling wet. No steam cleaner, no wet cloth on a stain: blot it dry and ask your dealer what can be done. And don't let a third party reupholster or open the bed without checking first — it can affect your warranty.
Don't sit on the same edge every day to put your socks on. It sounds fussy, but an edge loaded in one place for years is where the bed sags first.
A schedule you will keep
The care schedule rarely fails because it is difficult, but because it is forgotten. Tie it to something fixed: the change of the clocks in spring and autumn is a moment twice a year that you notice anyway.
Would you rather have a reminder? On our page for owners you can sign up for a care reminder — matched to your model, and nothing more.
Frequently asked questions
How often should you turn a Hästens?
According to the schedule supplied with your bed: more often in the first months after purchase, less often afterwards. It differs by model and component. If you have lost the schedule, ask your dealer for it, quoting the model number.
Can you wash a Hästens topper?
A topper with natural filling should not get wet. Blot stains dry and ask your dealer about the options before using water or cleaning products.
Do I need a mattress protector on a Hästens?
A protective layer is sensible, as long as it breathes. Choose cotton or molton; a waterproof plastic protector traps exactly the moisture the natural fibres want to carry away.
